Why we don't discount on Black Friday

F*ck Black Friday! 🖕 Who's with us?

At Planks, Black Friday doesn't sit right with us, so for a third year we're taking a conscious step back and not discounting. Why? The Black Friday weekend (now much of November) often encourages impulse purchases, promoting a culture of acquiring for the sake of a bargain. We're just not into that, and instead much rather you take your time choosing gear you're really going to love and wear season after season. This is why we'd prefer to use our platform and community to talk about the reasons why we don't discount at this time, for the benefit of our planet, our product and our people. 

WHY WE DON'T DISCOUNT ON BLACK FRIDAY:

• WE LOVE OUR PLANET - Up to 80% of products bought during Black Friday end up in landfill, are incinerated, or are recycled poorly. That's a really scary stat, and one we don't feel right about contributing to. • LOVE YOUR PRODUCT - Buy less and choose wisely. Feel confident that your gear suits your needs, ensuring it lasts for years to come. People often buy stuff they don't really want around the Black Friday period, for the sake of nabbing a great deal. While there's absolutely nothing wrong with getting a saving (we all love a deal!), we don't want to encourage buying things you ultimately won't treasure. 

• WE LOVE OUR PEOPLE - The more we discount, the less money we can give back to our people and partners, and that's really important to us. As a small business, there's only so much we can do, but we work with some amazing charities like POW and Snow Camp and opting out of Black Friday means the more impact we can have with them.

We’re fully committed to the people and planet that we love. We continue to explore ways to lessen our environmental impact, whilst continuing to give back to the skiing community. 💚
